UnitedHealth: Press release | MarketScreener

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Texas today announced a $5 million investment in Morgan’s Wonderland Multi-Assistance Center (The MAC), a new one-stop facility providing medical and non-medical services to people with disabilities. Through UnitedHealthcare’s investment, MAC will offer an Employment Support Center and a Practice Without Pressure program as part of its integrated service approach to eliminating two socioeconomic barriers for people with special needs: access to health care and stable employment.

The objective of the Supported Employment Center is to increase sustainable inclusive employment. Providing a collaborative home for multiple agencies, including the Texas Workforce Commission and community organizations, the Supported Employment Center will provide education, counseling and coaching to help people with disabilities become and remain employed. The center will simultaneously help employers hire and retain people with disabilities.

Additionally, this investment will allow the MAC to offer Practice Without Pressure (PWP), a methodology that allows people with disabilities to participate in their own health and self-care without restraint and with a reduced need for sedation. Working with individuals, their caregivers, and clinicians, a PWP practice specialist helps desensitize the disabled person while humanizing services such as dental, blood work, OB-GYN services, or MRI/rays X.

“This is a unique opportunity for UnitedHealthcare to help break down two significant barriers to equity for people with disabilities – access to health care and stable employment – through a unique partnership,” said Donald Langer, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Texas. “Helping people live healthier lives by giving them the support they need is central to our mission, and better outcomes in care and employment are important parts of that.”

According to the CDC, disability affects approximately 5.4 million people, or nearly 1 in 4 people (26%) in Texas. Persons with disabilities experience specific health disparities and additional unique challenges in accessing health care, and frequently report difficulties in finding appropriately trained and willing providers.

“People with disabilities often receive highly fragmented and uncoordinated health care, which leads to many barriers to well-being,” said Allan Castro, CEO of Morgan’s Wonderland Multi-Assistance Center. “Through this collaboration, we are helping to ensure that people with special needs of all ages have a place where they can find the integrated medical and non-medical services they need.”

This investment is part of UnitedHealthcare’s long-term commitment to eliminating health disparities and helping people live healthier lives. In Texas, UnitedHealthcare serves more than 4,430,000 people enrolled in employer-sponsored Medicare and Medicaid benefit plans, with a network of 988 hospitals and more than 114,000 physicians and other healthcare providers statewide. .
