Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Friday that Sylhet would become one of the hubs of modern medical services.
He said thousands of people from Bangladesh travel to neighboring countries every year for treatment.

“If we can provide adequate medical services to healthcare seekers, we will be able to save a huge amount of money,” Dr Momen said at the grand opening of the new 10-story exterior building of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) in the afternoon.
Highlighting the various measures taken by the government for the development of medical services in Sylhet, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the capacity of the SOMC hospital to provide medical services has increased significantly with the completion of the ten-story exterior building. .
In addition, the minister said that the eight-story building under construction of Sylhet Sadar Hospital will be completed by May of next year and medical services in Sylhet will then be advanced.

Dr Momen also mentioned that the process for building the Second Osmani University Hospital has already started.
The director of the Osmani Medical College hospital, the deputy commissioner of Sylhet and officials of the local administration were present, among others, on the occasion.
