Sahajanand Medical Technologies sets up a factory in Hyderabad


Sahajanand Medical Technologies (SMT) has established its global manufacturing, research and development center for minimally invasive cardiovascular devices at Medical Devices Park in Hyderabad.

KT Rama Rao, Minister of Industries and Commerce of Telangana Government officially inaugurated the first phase of the facility here on Friday.

SMT is a world leader and one of the largest companies in the cardiovascular manufacturing of structural and interventional devices.

It will be SMT’s second manufacturing unit which will manufacture 1.2 million stents and 2 million catheters when at full capacity.

SMT’s state-of-the-art manufacturing campus, based in Mumbai, will also house SMT’s R&D center, which will focus on the development of advanced medical products in interventional, structural, endovascular and closure products in the niche field of cardiology. .

The manufacturing unit will help create employment opportunities for nearly 2,000 people.

In addition, the R&D center will also employ over 300 scientists.

The facility will give a “significant boost” to the Make in India initiative in stent manufacturing and reduce India’s reliance on foreign stents which are imported with heavy taxes, according to a statement. .
