Portland, Maine –Maine Medical Center and its nursing team reached the American nurses Credential Center Magnet Recognition (ANCC)® for the fourth consecutive time. The Magnet Recognition Program is considered the benchmark for quality nursing care, recognizing healthcare organizations that both demonstrate nursing excellence and disseminate successful nursing practice.

Hospitals must go through a rigorous application process for magnetic recognition, with written documentation of the quality of nursing care and the success of hospital systems and processes supported by nurses. The ANCC also conducts site visits to assess the overall excellence of the hospital’s nursing care. Less than 10% of hospitals obtain magnetic recognition.

“This recognition from the ANCC is an independent confirmation of the high-quality care provided by our nursing team and our extraordinary commitment to advancing the standards of nursing practice,” Maine Medical Center said. Chief Nursing Officer Devin Carr, DNP, RN, RRT, ACNS-BC, NEA-BC. “As all patients know, the MMC nursing team is an incredible resource for the health and well-being of our community and it is extremely gratifying to receive this recognition which clearly shows that our nursing team is one of the best in the country.

During the ANCC site visit, evaluators noted the teamwork demonstrated by MMC nurses in solving complex issues, such as workplace violence prevention, and praised the processes Improvement Program and the Nurse Clinician Promotion Program.

MMC has already obtained magnetic recognition in 2006, 2011 and 2017. Learn more about magnetic recognition® Program, visit the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
