McLaren Flint welcomes Chris Candela as President and CEO effective August 1. Chris has over 27 years of successful and progressive responsibility in healthcare, including clinical and executive leadership experience.
“Chris has a strong focus on patient safety, clinical quality, physician and team member relationships, as well as overall operational and financial performance, with a proven track record of success,” said Chad Grant, Executive Vice President and COO of McLaren Health Care and Past President and CEO of McLaren Flint. “Chris is a forward thinking leader who will help McLaren Flint continue to succeed in today’s changing healthcare landscape.
Candela has been President and CEO of the McLaren Lapeer Region since 2017. Under Chris’s leadership, the McLaren Lapeer Region has received several MPRO Governors’ Awards for Quality / Safety, has been recognized by Healthgrades and Leapfrog for Safety and quality, and worked with physicians to build and develop many lines of service. He also led the approval, design and construction of the hospital’s new medical services building, valued at $ 27.5 million.
Chris first joined the McLaren family in 2008 as Director of Rehabilitation Services for McLaren Macomb Hospital with responsibility for the operation of acute care and outpatient rehabilitation services. Based on his outstanding performance, Chris went on to take on additional roles and responsibilities, which led to his rise to VP of Operations and COO of McLaren Macomb in 2013.
Prior to joining McLaren Macomb, Chris held several increasingly responsible administrative roles at Henry Ford Health System, Tri Rehab, Inc. (New Baltimore, MI) and Concentra Medical Center (Sterling Heights, MI).
Chris holds an MBA from the University of Detroit Mercy and a BS in Physiotherapy from Wayne State University.
