Intermountain Healthcare, DonorConnect and InVita Healthcare Technologies Launch iReferral Interoperability to Save and Heal More Lives

Using targeted algorithmic clinical triggers and secure interoperability, iReferral eliminates the need for manual referral processes over the phone. iReferral sends urgent information from the hospital’s electronic health record (EHR) system directly to the OPO’s iTransplant℠ donation management system. OCT confirmation is immediate and automatically logged in the hospital’s EHR, streamlining regulatory compliance requirements, including those of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

“DonorConnect is excited to embrace any tool that helps streamline the organ retrieval and transplant process and ensure positive outcomes for transplant recipients,” explained Tracy Schmidt, Executive Director and President of DonorConnect. “We have been looking forward to implementing iReferral and seeing the improved efficiencies the system will provide.”

Following a successful pilot launch at Intermountain Medical Center in early 2022, iReferral℠ has launched in Intermountain Healthcare’s intensive care units at Intermountain Medical Center and Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital, with plans to roll out across other establishments and units later this year.

Wade LiuVice President of Products for the Transplantation Division of InVita Healthcare Technologies, said, “iReferral represents a unique victory and a step forward for everyone involved in the donation-transplantation ecosystem. Hospitals can enforce compliance with federal requirements to refer potential donors. Nurses and providers can stay at the bedside and focus on patient care instead of regurgitating information over the phone that is already in the EHR OPOs can automatically and reliably receive essential referrals to assess all possible donation opportunities Families can be offered the opportunity to donate at the appropriate and appropriate time. All of this helps to maximize the donation of organ, tissue and eye transplants for the many people who currently need them.
