IAM CORE – Apple’s First Union Workers – Express your disappointment to CEO Tim Cook at being kicked out of the new education and medical benefit

WASHINGTON, October 29, 2022 – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Coalition of Organized Retail Employees (IAM CORE), the first Apple workers to join a union, recently sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook announcing that Apple will ban IAM CORE members in Towson, MD. certain educational and medical benefits offered to all other Apple employees starting next year.

IAM CORE members have been focused on reaching an agreement that gives members the proper respect and dignity in the workplace and sets the standard in the tech industry. The members’ letter to CEO Cook expressed disappointment at not following past practice of including Towson employees in company-wide improvements after consultation with the union.

“Even more troubling are reports from store executives that these benefits simply cannot be extended to Towson store employees simply because we have formed a union,” wrote IAM CORE employees in a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook. “Critical context is missing from this communication about the process of change within a unionized store and the fact that we can, and we will include them (along with any new benefits) in our collective bargaining proposal. Finally, to date, Apple management has yet to provide our union with details of the new benefits, so we have the option of including them in our upcoming contract negotiations.

“IAM and IAM CORE members will not remain silent on any differential treatment from Apple,” said David Sullivan, IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President. “Our Towson members work every day to protect the Apple brand and serve as frontline ambassadors. They deserve to be treated fairly and made aware of any impact on their working lives. We look forward to sitting down at the table.” with Apple to resolve any issues in the future.

I will make myself available to sit down with CEO Cook at any time.
