FORT MYERS, FL. (September 30, 2021) – The Florida Skin Center (FSC) has announced that its Founder and Medical Director, Anais Aurora Badia, MD, DO, has been appointed Dermatology Subspecialty Coordinator for Florida’s new Internal Medicine Residency Program State University College of Medicine from Lee Health to Lee Health, Cape Coral Hospital.

A collaboration between Lee Health and Florida State University College of Medicine, the inaugural Internal Medicine Residency Program will graduate capable and effective internists who learn throughout life, committed to serving others with excellence and compassion throughout. promoting a healthier future for the community. The program is made up of enthusiastic and experienced internists who enjoy teaching, supported by highly motivated subspecialty faculty.

“The demand for dermatological services is increasing as the population ages and the rates of skin cancer and other skin diseases increase,” said Badia. “These residents will gain intense, real-world experience to prepare them to become the next generation of internal medicine providers in Southwest Florida.” The residency program will see the first group of new doctors start training in July 2022.

In addition to educating clinical residents and teaching them through hands-on experience, Dr. Badia will give educational lectures on dermatological medical conditions and treatments commonly seen by physicians in internal medicine. She will also perform grand tours, an educational method for presenting case studies of actual medical conditions and treatments. Additionally, Dr. Badia will be a mentor for residents expressing a desire to conduct dermatology-based research.

The Higher Medical Education Accreditation Council (ACGNE) approved Badia’s application and references for the position. The independent, physician-run, nonprofit organization sets and monitors professional education standards essential to prepare physicians to provide safe, high-quality medical care to all Americans.

Badia holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and received her doctorate in osteopathy from the Nova Southeastern University of Health Sciences. Her postgraduate training includes a pediatric residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, dermatology residencies at Nova Southeastern University – Suncoast Hospital and Albany Medical College, and a Pediatric Dermatology Mini Fellowship at Albany Medical College. She received her MD from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Antigua, West Indies. She is certified in Pediatric Dermatology (2014-present) and Dermatology (2004-present) by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology.

She has led numerous studies evaluating the long-term efficacy, tolerability and safety of trial drugs in adults with skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, Verneuili’s disease, plaque psoriasis, rosacea and acne.
