BodiMetrics Tackles Health Inequalities in the Wearable Health Tech Industry

Creators of the Prevention circul+ wellness ring announce new initiatives to address racial health disparities in the wearable health technology market, including additional studies and collaboration with Kelvin Bostona host of a financial wellness television show, to raise awareness of the inaccuracies of blood monitoring devices for people of color.

LOS ANGELES, May 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — BodiMetrics today announced several new initiatives that address health inequities in the wearable medical technology industry and educate multicultural communities about the racial biases implicit in commercial pulse oximeters. Research published by several organizations, including the New England Journal of Medicine, has raised concerns about the dangerous inaccuracies of pulse oximeters, devices that measure blood oxygen, when used by African Americans and other darker-skinned patients. Other recent studies have also shown that smartwatches and fitness bands are less effective at tracking the heart rate of people of color.

“The ability of BodiMetrics medical devices to provide accurate data is the main reason I decided to work with them,” said Dr. Meir Kryger, professor of pulmonology and sleep medicine at Yale University. “Most other popular fitness devices don’t provide accurate medical information for all populations. BodiMetric’s Circul+ Prevention Ring does.”

BodiMetrics, creator of the Prevention circul+ wellness monitoring ring, published studies demonstrating that Circul Wellness Rings provide accurate blood oxygen and heart rate readings for people of all skin tones. Today, the company is taking new steps to promote health equity, including new research partnerships in the UK and Portugal to study skin sensitivity in sensors that medical professionals can use to monitor health.

“Health inequality is a major issue. Our mission has always been to deliver the best data with our devices,” said Neil Friedman, co-founder and COO of BodiMetrics. “We have built the prevention circul+ to work for everyone. And we will continue to build the right relationships within consumer circles and the wider medical community to bring our solutions where they are needed. “

In United StatesBodiMetrics recently formed a collaboration with Kelvin E. Bostonbestselling financial author, entrepreneur and host of Moneywise with Kelvin Boston, a multicultural financial wellness television series. The collaboration will educate African American and multicultural consumers and healthcare providers about Prevention circul+ through a new online marketing campaign, an online healthcare marketplace, and sponsorship of the new Moneywise with Kelvin Boston Television series produced for public television channels and streaming platforms.

“The Prevention circul+ Wellness Ring is an empowering, affordable and easy-to-use wellness ring,” says Kelvin Boston. “I’m thrilled to let communities of color know about BodiMetric’s circul+ ring, as it can help reduce health disparities by empowering everyone to accurately monitor vital health signs, sleep and exercise, regardless of skin tone. Now everyone can use the power of digital health monitoring to help ensure a longer, healthier life.”

Marilyn French HubbardPh.D., President & CEO of Healthy, Wealthy, & Wise: Change Agents, LLC and former Corporate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Henry Ford Health, explains why BodiMetrics research and collaborations with Dr. Meir Kryger and Kelvin Boston question. “CDC data reveals that many racial groups are at greater risk of illness, hospitalization and premature death from Covid-19 viruses and other preventable illnesses. BodiMetric studies and collaborative efforts are timely , welcome and needed to help improve America’s health disparities.”
